ILM certificateWhy do the accreditation/assessment process?

Here at Liz Scott Coaching & Training we are very proud to have the Coaching Skills for Leaders  training programme endorsed through the ILM (Institute of Leadership and Management).*   The training is a 6-day (2 full days and 4 half days) stand alone course and there is an additional 7th day of training for those wishing to go through the assessment and accreditation process.

After the Coaching Skills for Leaders programme you will be equipped to use your coaching skills as part of your role within your business and organisation.  Coaching skills are very simple to learn, however it takes practice before they begin to embed and to make real sense.

We find that the accreditation and assessment process ensures that once your have completed the 6 day course you continue to develop and stretch yourself through practice, research and assignment-writing.

What is involved?

There are three stages to this endorsed award.

  • Step one: Complete the Coaching Skills for Leaders Course
  • Step two: Complete the portfolio and assignment
  • Step three: Pass the Assessment Day

We take you through the steps in more detail below.

Step one: Complete the Coaching Skills for Leaders Course

The Coaching Skills for Leaders course is one of the core coaching programmes from Liz Scott Coaching & Training.  It is a rich mix of theory, practice and online learning.

The Coaching Skills for Leaders programme is a great way to develop the core skills of a coach.  It is the keystone of future training and development.

Step two:  Complete the portfolio and assignment

There is additional work to complete for the ILM endorsed/accreditation. We will provide you with a complete overview of this should you wish to go ahead with it.  In summary you will be required to:

  • Complete an assignment (2,000 words)
  • Provide evidence of coaching (six coaching sessions)
  • Write reflections on coaching (written reflections on learning)
  • Provided your top 10 strengths
  • Completed the DIY 360 degree feedback
  • Attended at least 4 days of training

Step three: The Assessment Day

There are two parts to the assessment day. The assessors will want to see you coaching a short (10-15 min) coaching session from beginning to end.  They will be assessing your skills of listening, summarising and questioning.  The second aspect to the day is for individuals to answer a series of questions on various areas of coaching.  Here is a synopsis of the assessment day.

a. The Assessed Coaching Session

You will be asked to coach someone else who is on the assessment day.  The session will be about 10-15 minutes in length.  During this session the assessor will be focusing on the following areas:

  • Listening
  • Summarising
  • Questioning
  • Who is doing the thinking?
  • The GROW model

b. The Question and Answer Session

This will be conducted in small groups (a max of 6 people). The trainer  has a list of 15 questions to ask.  All of these questions will have been covered in your training.

The trainer will go through the 15 questions and take in turns asking each participant to answer.

The purpose of this is to ensure that everyone has a sound understanding of the theoretical knowledge behind coaching. The student handbook has full details of the areas that will be covered.

Formed in 2001 with the merger of NEBS Management and the Institute of Supervisory Management, the ILM is part of the City and Guilds Group, the UK’s largest vocational awarding body.
